How To Have A Secluded Wedding In Whistler

Whistler is a popular resort town that now has an equally popular mountain biking season.

Which is fantastic if that’s your sport of choice. Maybe not if you’re planning an intimate wedding in Whistler and are hoping for something quiet, private, and surrounded by nature.

So what happens when you want to have a secluded wedding in Whistler? A mountain town that attracts roughly 1.5 million visitors in the summer?

Well, friend, time to get a little more creative with when and where you get married.

5 Tips To Avoid The Crowds For Your Whistler Wedding Or Elopement

Sunrise

Did you know there are 2 golden hours? One in the morning and one in the evening. An easy way to avoid crowds on your elopement day is to schedule a sunrise elopement. The light will be just as beautiful and golden, but we'll have fewer people around, even at the most popular parks.

This is probably one of the easiest ways to have a private wedding in Whistler in the summer.

Shoulder seasons

Whistler has 2 shoulder seasons where the crowds lessen. They come with more unpredictable weather and more precipitation. But the popular locations are noticeably quieter.

The fall tends to quiet down as soon as the weather starts to turn, though Mother Nature can still treat us to a beautiful bluebird day, if a little chilly.

After a long winter, everyone is excited to be outside at the hint of a warm day. So although the parks aren’t packed, they can be a bit busier than expected, especially on a nice day.

Plan (or hope)  for a rainy/cloudy day

Being a mountain town, the rainy, overcast, and a little bit chilly days tend to keep everyone at home. If you're up for braving the conditions, we'll likely have the place, park, and even the mountain to ourselves. With the added benefit that cloudy weather creates lovely soft light that makes everything, and everyone, look amazing.

Add some adventure

An easy way to avoid the crowds is to go where they aren't! Including an adventure like a helicopter ride to an alpine lake, or a sunset 4x4 Jeep ride to your Whistler elopement, is the perfect combo of privacy, incredible views, and a bucket-list experience.

There are also mountain lodges and wilderness venues that make planning a secluded wedding in Whistler easier.

Book an outdoor venue

Securing an outdoor space like the Stone Circle or the patio at Dusty's is an easy way to have some privacy on your wedding day. These locations often need a permit fee, but it’s not crazy expensive and is so worth it. Finding a quiet lakeside location in Whistler in the summer can sometimes be tricky. Having a reserved spot gives you a much more relaxed experience.
