The Benefits of Focusing on Fewer Parks for Family Photos

Choosing where to go for your family photos can either be a very easy decision or a stressful one. It’s easy if you have a favourite, go-to spot that you and your kiddos absolutely love. But what if you’re not really the type of family that goes to a lot of parks. Or maybe you love all the parks in city and you can’t choose a favourite!

Narrowing down your choice suddenly can feel as daunting as trying to plan a themed birthday party for 25 six-year-olds.

And since you’re already a busy Mama, I wanted to make the process of choosing a location for your family photos as easy as possible by narrowing down the location options to 7 of my favourite parks in the Vancouver area.

Benefits of limiting family photo location options

  1. Avoid decision fatigue. It’s a well-known fact that too many options can cause you not to make a decision. So by limiting the options of where to go for your family photos, you avoid “analysis paralysis” and can quickly make a choice and move onto life

  2. I know these parks really well. This means I know where the best spots are, the best time of day to start, and the best way to navigate our way around the park.

  3. Focus on you + your family. Because I know these parks so well, I’m free to focus on creating a really fun family photo session that makes everyone feel comfortable and allows for those naturally candid moments full of genuine emotion to shine through.

Why only 7 parks?

When I was deciding on which parks to focus on, I looked back at all my family sessions over the last few years and I noticed a trend: almost all my family sessions took place at one of these 7 parks. So it felt natural to focus only on these.

I also noticed that these parks all have some common themes:

  • Easy to get to

  • Easy to access parking (parking ranges from free to paid)

  • Variety in scenery

  • Entertainment factors for kids with short attention spans

  • Space to expend some excited energy
