Small Wedding Photo Location Tips

Whether it’s a location for your elopement with 2 best friends as witnesses, or your wedding photos, there are a few things that make for a great photo location!

Photo Location Criteria

We all know that golden hour is that lovely golden soft sunset light that literally makes everyone look good. And in a perfect world, your wedding photos would be take when the light is at it’s best, starting approximately 1 hour before sunset or we loose the light behind mountains or buildings..

But what if your small wedding timeline does allow for that?

No problem, I gotchu!!

We can find the perfect location for photos at any time of day. And that’s because one of the things that will make all the difference when it comes to choosing the best spot for your portraits: lighting.

Here are 4 things to consider when it comes to deciding exactly where to go for your photos:

  • An area with nice open shade so that while the sun is high, the light will fall evenly across everyone in the photo (avoiding spotty light or harsh shadows that give you raccoon eyes!).

  • Somewhere I can put the sun behind you so that your faces are naturally shaded and evenly lit. If you see me doing a funny little dance, I’m just trying to find the perfect angle.

  • A spot free of objects that will create major colour casts on your faces. What does that even mean? Well, leaves create great shade, but sometimes they make you look a bit green. Things like that!

  • A natural reflection. I love anything with a natural reflection like sand, gravel, snow and sidewalks. Having you stand in open shade at the edge of a sidewalk or gravel path creates gorgeous light, so don’t be surprised if I ask you to stand in a weird spot!

Not sure where to get married or where to go for photos?
