A Morning Rainbow Park Elopement in Whistler, BC
The week leading up to Theresa and Seamus’ Rainbow Park elopement in Whistler, the forecast called for light rain. But on the morning of their big day, Mother Nature treated us to a break from the rain + even a guest appearance of the sun!
After a beautiful first look right by the lake, Brandon, a Whistler wedding officiant, joined us for an intimate ceremony. Since Theresa and Seamus weren't inviting any guests, Dennis and I were honoured to stand in as their witnesses.
After popping some bubbly to celebrate getting married, we explored the park, enjoyed the views, and took our time to really soak in every moment. What we didn't expect was to be joined the entire time by one of the locals, a goose we nicknamed Gord.
From Theresa + Seamus
Why did you plan the type of wedding day you did?
Since Theresa's family lives in Germany and Seamus' family lives spread around Canada, it would have been hard to plan one big wedding for everyone. So we decided to do an intimate small elopement with just the 2 of us and focus on us.
How did you pick your venue/location?
We knew we wanted to do it outdoors, and didn't feel like we wanted to travel too far, so Whistler seemed like a natural choice. Since we do a lot of camping and hiking around the region, we've spent plenty of time in and around Whistler, so it felt right.
What was your favourite thing about your wedding venue/location and why?
The best thing ended up being the weather on our chosen day! But we really liked that we could spend a whole weekend enjoying time for ourselves without a lot of travel stress, getting to be away from home, but also in a place we felt comfortable. It ended up being a lot of fun taking photos in many different spots around the park as well.
Were there any vendors you were especially excited to work with?
Since Seamus and I never had any professional photo shooting done, we were very excited to work together with Vanessa and Dennis! It worked out perfectly. We enjoyed every minute of it, and we felt very natural and comfortable throughout the photo shooting.
I was also very excited to work with the hair and make-up stylist Helen, she made the start of the day so much easier and relaxed.
Did any vendors surprise you/go the extra mile?
Our photographers certainly get an A++ for helping us arrange things and basically running the show for us on the day😉
How did you feel on the morning of your wedding day?
Seamus was very relaxed and just happy to get married with me. I was getting very nervous about everything and worried that vendors are not showing up or something goes wrong. Once we were at the venue and we met our photographers I finally did got more and more relaxed and was able to enjoy our day!
What was your favourite moment of the day?
Right after our ceremony and photos were done, when we could sit in the park finishing our champagne in the nice weather and feeling happy to finally be married, and relieved that everything worked out so well for us.
What was your most memorable moment of the day?
The most memorable moment of the day was listening to Seamus vows. We made the decision to write our own vows to make it special so it was very memorable to hear Seamus' promises and love about me.
Were you surprised by anything that happened on your day? (Good or funny mishap)
Our goose friend that showed up to hang out with us throughout the entire ceremony and photo shoot was certainly something.
Looking back on your day, complete this sentence. "We're so glad we...."?
We're so glad we decided to do an elopement, keep things simple and small, and focus on doing something for the two of us.
Any final thoughts or advice to engaged couples planning their wedding?
I would suggest to listen to your heart and do what you and your partner wants for your wedding/elopement. Don't let your family influence you about your decisions. At the end of the day it is your big day and you should celebrate it how you want it.
