The Best Time Of Year To Get Married In Whistler

Being in the PNW, we’re lucky to have the mildest winters in Canada. That makes Whistler the perfect location for a wedding all year round.

And since Mother Nature plays a big role in deciding when to get married, I’m breaking down the best time of year to get married in Whistler to help make planning your elopement/small wedding as stress-free as possible!

Best Season To Get Married In Whistler

Whistler is blessed with 4 distinct seasons, and here’s a rundown of each season and what you might expect:

Summer Weddings

The draw of summer weddings can’t be denied. The bluebird days are long, and the season naturally brings out the happy vibes in all of us.

This is also the draw for many tourists and city locals alike,  and the parks and lakes tend to get crowded early in the day, with the festivities running late into the evening.

Sunscreen is a must in the summer, as are light layers and linen outfits. While the views are always epic, there’s also the chance you may end up with a smoky view instead due to the wildfires.

Fall Weddings

As the leaves start to change colours, the temperatures start to drop, and the precipitation starts to increase, giving the season cozy, intimate vibes.

The crowds start to stay home more, with only the most adventurous spending time at the windy lakeside parks.

Backup weather plans are a must at this time of year, but there’s always a chance Mother Nature will surprise us with a dry, sunny day when it was forecast to rain.

Winter Weddings

Winter in Whistler is often overcast, which actually makes for great lighting for photos.

Being a world-class ski resort, the winters can be just as busy crowd-wise as the summer months, though the crowds + lights give Whistler a winter wonderland vibe. That being said, the parks themselves tend to be quieter as most people stay home a lot more.

Definitely need some good tread shoes, waterproof layers and snow tires. I’d also recommend booking accommodations well in advance, especially during the Holidays, stat holidays + school breaks, since they can fill up fast.

Spring Weddings

Spring brings warmer days and unpredictable weather. Notorious for a week of warm weather followed by a few days of single-digit temps, there is an energy and excitement in Whistler as the winter ends.

Like in most places, after a long winter, everyone is ready to be outside! The parks + lakes start to get busier even though most of the summer vacationers have yet to arrive.

The evenings can still have a chill in the air, so layers are recommended along with waterproof shoes + jackets.

Non-Seasonal Criteria For When To Get Married

Aside from the season, common criteria couples often use to choose when to elope or get married:

Wedding outfits. If your dream wedding dress has layers upon layers, or if you’re going with a bespoke 3-piece black suit, then super hot temps will have you sweating in 3.5 seconds. The shoulder seasons, with cooler temperatures, might be more your vibe.

Crowds. Whistler is a ski mountain town, so winters can be busy, and hotels can get booked up just as quickly as in the summer. And summers in Whistler draw a lot of people from the city wanting a close-to-home getaway weekend or just a day trip to the lake. There are also yearly events like Crankworx + Gran Fondo to keep in mind, as a lot of people come into town for those.

Sentimental Date.  The most common sentimental wedding date is the same date as your dating anniversary or a special date in your relationship’s history. Numerology, spiritual, etc., decisions have also played a role in choosing your wedding date.

Choosing The Best Time Of Year To Get Married in Whistler

Deciding when to get married really comes down to what matters most to you on the day of your wedding.

Do you want it to be sunny?

Do you want it to be private?

Do you have a sentimental date or favourite month?

Ultimately, there is no wrong answer. Your elopement or small wedding is going to be amazing regardless of the time of year.

So let’s work together and plan a day that has you loving every single moment!
